Recently I helped a friend of mine select a camera as per his requirement. My two cents worth helped him save close to Rs.10,000 and I thought I might as well write a review of this wonderful point-and-shoot camera. He wanted a camera for taking photos during family gatherings and some special occasions.
If you are looking for deep technical specs, you can find them here. I am just going to tell you why I, as an user, like this camera a lot. By the way, all the photos in this blog are from this camera.
It’s got 10 megapixels (MP) resolution. Don’t worry too much if you don’t know what megapixel is. You don’t need to know. Basic rule is, more the megapixels = better the resolution. 10 MP is close to more, it’s really good.
10x OPTICAL zoom – Do not be fooled with digital zoom. Digital zoom lets you zoom in, but the clarity of the photo is lost. So always look at the optical zoom. This cam has 10x optical zoom, which is great for a point and shoot cam. A photo using zoom.
Robust – It’s small, light and easy to handle.
Modes - The many modes give you a glimpse of a DSLR, without having to pay as much you would for a DSLR. The cam lets you change the shutter speed, the aperture, ISO and many more settings. You can get a rough idea about the basics of DSLR photography. Don’t worry, it also has auto mode, which means you can just click.
Video mode – Like I said, it’s really great for small family gathering video or even outdoor videos. I had taken a video when Chris Pfeiffer was in Chennai. Check out the video here.
Price - If you get it from the US, it will cost you Rs.8500. In India, it costs Rs.13,500. Canon does not provide international warranty (I’ve never needed it in the last one year).
Final word – It’s an awesome, affordable point-and-shoot camera which gives you a taste of DSLR. So use this one before deciding on a DSLR.
Hope this was helpful. Feedbacks and questions welcome!
cheers
